Treasurer’s Report

Unfortunately, our Treasurer Scott Prior will not be able to attend the AGM this year, but he has already passed on the financial report to me, and we have discussed its content. The following issues and observations have come arisen –

Year on year, our financial reserves are getting lower and lower. This is due to a couple of factors.

When we have lectures, the typical cost is £250, which breaks down into £200 for the lecture fee and around £50 for accommodation costs for the visiting magician.

At the moment, we charge members and additional £5 to attend lectures and £10 for “bespoke” ones. Visiting magicians are charged £10 for both events. This may be considered for change during 2023.

In the past we have tried to host magic gala evenings. These have been a brilliant source of income for the Guild. Sadly, the Covid-19 pandemic stopped this from happening for almost 3 years. Moving forward, it would be great to reinstate this event on an annual basis, not just to build our finances but to celebrate our Guild and share our love of magic.

Registration fees are currently at £15 per year. Do we need to increase it? A major bonus of Guild membership is the low price, but do we feel that this needs to change during 2023 or keep it the same until the following year?

We now have an official librarian – Justin Simon-Byrne, who is doing a sterling job looking after our books and DVDs, also cataloguing everything during 2022.

Scott Prior will take over the role of Chairperson this year. We will be looking for either a volunteer for the new Deputy or proposed names for the office. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for this.

Covid-19 Cup

Many thanks to all who attended the Christmas meeting and took part in the Covid-19 Cup. This is becoming a great annual event that hopefully will go from strength to strength. I emailed Tim Bridge (donor of the “Covid-19” Cup) with links to the videos of the competition. He passes on his best to all the members!

Facebook and Instagram

We are considering increasing our presence on Social Media, mainly Facebook and Instagram. I have started both pages up and intend to add content on a monthly basis, such as photos from meetings and videos of magic being performed by us. If anyone has similar content or takes photos and videos at meetings or get-togethers, please let me know if you would like them uploading.

Charity Nominations

Nice to do but is it worth it, based on the amount we raise? Gala nights used to raise some funds, so maybe we can reinstate this for 2023? North West Air Ambulance was still our nominated charity for last year, but no additional money was raised for them. Perhaps we can continue with them for 2023 and see what efforts we can make?
